SeaTube is a web-based, easy to use system that allows for annotation of either archived or real-time/live streaming video. It provides support for unlimited, geographically separated groups of annotators who are recording and applying annotations to the video stream.
Annotations can be automatically fused with data generated from other synched instruments (e.g., positional information from navigation systems, water properties from remotely operated vehicle (ROV)-mounted instruments, etc.)
The ability to incorporate either a custom vocabulary-constrained taxonomy, or standard ones such as WoRMS, allows the resulting annotations to be easily downloaded and utilized for further analysis and for machine learning training data sets. The resulting archive is fully searchable, allowing users to easily locate and bookmark and download video clips of interest, as well as generate static images.
Current users of this innovative digital logbook tool include NOAA (National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration) and Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
