Ocean Networks Canada (ONC) is proud to announce our membership in the Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada 50 – 30 Challenge, a collaboration between the Government of Canada, businesses, and diversity organizations. Launched in December 2020, more than 1200 Canadian organizations have joined this program with a goal to achieve both gender parity (50%) and increased presence of underrepresented groups (30%) on boards, and in senior levels of management.
Without barriers to participation, the opportunity to advance our knowledge and understanding of our changing ocean is immense. Recognizing this, ONC is committed to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in all its ocean science and technology activities and interactions—with staff, science users, and partner organizations. “ONC is proud to be one of 1200 Canadian organizations participating in the 50 – 30 Challenge. We are fully committed to fostering and achieving a diverse and inclusive environment that will enable all staff, science users and partners to contribute to understanding our changing ocean,“ says Kate Moran, ONC’s President and CEO.
“I am very happy to see ONC’s decision to take part in the 50 – 30 Challenge. As a member of the scientific research and education industry, ONC is fostering innovation by embracing diversity and inclusion, inviting new perspectives and insights into their work. Ensuring diverse leadership in these areas will create a more equitable, inclusive Canada for everyone. I look forward to watching this program grow and become the new standard in industries across Canada.” The Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry
