Message from ONC President and CEO, Kate Moran, O.C.

Finding the courage to stay the course can be difficult in times of uncertainty. At Ocean Networks Canada (ONC), we remain steadfast in our mission: to deliver and expand access to ocean intelligence that will help shape a sustainable and resilient future.

Now more than ever, science is essential—not just for Canada, but for the world—if we are to tackle our greatest challenge, the climate crisis, that is impacting all facets of our lives, and our planet.

In this edition, I am delighted to share the Government of Canada’s $24-million investment in the ONC-led Solid Carbon project. This groundbreaking initiative aims to harness the world's largest reservoir for carbon dioxide sequestration, ocean basalt, and pave the way for a bold, Canadian-led and sustainable climate solution.

I also invite you to go below the surface with our latest ONCabyss expedition StoryMap of deep sea exploration and ocean science at sea in 2024, as well as our latest Spring 2025 Expedition wrap-up.

Lastly, a heartfelt thanks to our partners in Southern Ocean monitoring, the Spanish National Research Council, as we technologically advance remote ocean observing in one of the fastest changing parts of our planet, as seen in our new video.

At ONC we stand strong for science, for Canada, and for a brighter future. Join us.
