ONC President and CEO Kate Moran has today been named an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellow for her contributions to ocean science research, policy, and outreach.
Each year, the Council elects members whose “efforts on behalf of the advancement of science, or its applications, are scientifically or socially distinguished.”
Sudip Parikh, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Publisher, Science family of journals, said Moran is being honoured for her distinguished contributions to research, policy, and outreach in ocean science and related realms, both directly and through administrative roles at Ocean Networks Canada and elsewhere.
“I am truly honoured for this recognition from scientific peers around the world. My career successes have only been achieved by working with skilled, selfless, and dedicated professionals and I can’t thank them enough,” says Kate Moran.
Honouring esteemed innovators is a tradition dating back to 1874 for AAAS, the world’s largest general scientific society and publisher of the Science family of journals. 505 scientists, engineers and innovators from around the world and across all disciplines were elected to the new class of 2022, announced in a press release today.
“AAAS is proud to elevate these standout individuals and recognize the many ways in which they’ve advanced scientific excellence, tackled complex societal challenges and pushed boundaries that will reap benefits for years to come,” says Parikh.
Moran will be celebrated along with the new class of 2022 at the annual Fellows Forum in Washington, D.C., this summer. The new Fellows will also be featured in the AAAS News & Notes section of Science in February 2023.
