Learning Events

Ocean Networks Canada's learning team has established flagship events that encourage students, educators and the public to better understand the ocean, its influence on us and our influence on it. These annual events help inspire educators to teach about the ocean; encourage high school students to pursue a degree in marine science and technology; assist post-secondary graduates to find a meaningful position in the work force; and establish connections between the ocean the general public.

Ocean Science Symposium

Ocean Networks Canada, in collaboration with Let’s Talk Science, hosted the first Ocean Science Symposium for high school students and teachers in 2012. Participants engaged with graduate students, explored current research and learned about careers within the diverse field of ocean sciences. Oceans Week

Ocean Networks Canada is proud to partner with Oceans Week Victoria to host educational opportunities and events during the week surrounding World Oceans Day on June 8th. This collaboration among organizations in our community aims to foster greater understanding and positive action for our local and global ocean.

Big Blue and You

Big Blue and You is Ocean Networks Canada's professional development series to help educators bring ocean science to your class. All levels of educators are welcome with programming best suited to middle and high school educators. Our workshop content is developed by BC certified teachers and, when appropriate, in collaboration with School Districts and local Indigenous knowledge holders. Dive in to explore our resources, hands-on lesson plans, activities, and tools for inquiry.

Beyond these flagship events, we are keen to participate in local and regional events like workshops, festivals, and teacher pro-D days. If you are planning an event and would like Ocean Networks Canada's learning team to be present, please contact us.
