Oceans 3.0 provides a collection of web services to help users access and make use of ONC's vast data archive. The web services are split into three functional groups: data discovery, data delivery, and data interoperability.
- Data discovery services help users obtain the specific codes needed to request data from the archive.
- Data delivery services return the specific data defined by users through filter criteria. For example, if a user wants quick access to simple data, such as the last reading from an instrument, they can clearly define this query, access the relevant data, and utilize the information.
- Data interoperability services interact with ONC’s scalar data archive to generate lists of important metadata, show information about sensors and processes that generate measurements, and retrieve sensor observations that can be filtered by phenomena.
