**Ocean literacy is understanding the relationship between people and the ocean, including the influence of one on the other.** ONC works with other organizations and Indigenous community partners to develop and deliver educational programs that fuel curiosity, build capacity and advance ocean knowledge. Our programs educate, equip and empower learners using science, technology, engineering, art/design and math (STEAM). 

ONC’s formal and informal programs—which reach learners from K-12 through to graduate schools, communities, and in professional development contexts—provide the foundation to use ocean intelligence to increase ocean stewardship and climate action. 

Our courses include core modules that provide curriculum-aligned, experiential learning for middle school and high school students.

For post-secondary, our education coordinators offer citizen science initiatives and classroom and field-based courses; each designed to connect with ONC’s abundance of ocean data and foster understanding of coastal and deep-sea marine science.
